Coop Iceland Receives Business Education Award

Samkaup, Coop Iceland's retail chain has been awarded the country's Business Educational Award for 2020.

Nominations come all business sectors in the country, such as the energy sector, Confederation of Tourism, Confederation of Financial Services, Confederation of Fisheries, Confederation of Industries and the Confederation of Trade and Services.

The main criteria for the award include the availability of organized and targeted education within the company, the involvement of as many as possible employees, constantly upgrading the standards of education and the promotion and incentivisation of further knowledge acquisition.

The major challenge for Samkaup lies in the operation of 60 stores with 1,300 employees nationwide, under numerous brands and service lines. Samkaup's senior management decided that a special focus on educational issues was one of the key elements of good operations. So, they have developed clear guidelines emphasizing competences and skills employees must acquire in all operations and areas of the business.

The ultimate objective is employees' sense of job satisfaction, as this will result in a positive attitude and a good reputation for both new employees and the customers.

The picture shows the President of Iceland - Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and the Minister of Enducation - Lilja Alfreðsdóttir presenting the award to Gunnar Egill Sigurðsson - Manager of Operations and Gunnur Líf Gunnarsdóttir - Human Recourse Manager of Samkaup.

Well done, colleagues!
