Coop Norway saved over half a million bags of food

Thanks to the collaboration with Too Good To Go mobile app, Coop Norway's stores and customers saved 550,000 bags of surplus food.

Coop Norway and customers, who are also co-owners, "are concerned with sustainability and are becoming increasingly aware of throwing away less food", says Håvard Jensen, Director of Chains at Coop Norway.

The retail chain, which has recently signed the industry agreement to reduce food waste, aims to achieve a 30% reduction in food waste by 2025. The collaboration with Too Good To Go started in 2017 and in 2021 the offer became very popular in most of Coop's stores: it is expected to reduce the chain food waste by approximately 6% in 2022. Until now, 550,000 bags of surplus food have been saved that correspond to 1,375 tonnes of CO2. At the moment, 804 Coop stores across the country have a profile in the Too Good To Go app to sell goods that are at risk of being thrown away. 

The food that is saved is left over at the store's closing time and placed in Magic Boxes made available in the Too Good To Go app. In this way, customers can buy groceries at around one-third of the full price. What ends up in the bags varies every day depending on the store leftovers.
