The third year of Coop Italia’s campaign "A sea of ideas for our waters" has come and the results had been presented at the Sea Summit on 5-7 October in Trieste. During these three days, experts, politicians, and environmental scientists, discussed maritime innovation, the protection of marine ecosystems and the sustainability of human choices, topics on which Coop Italia has been engaged for over thirty years (the first Coop Italia campaign on phosphate reduction in detergents in 1984).
The campaigns, conducted with the scientific partner Lifegate, led to the installation of 46 Seabin and the installation of Trash Collec'Thor, an innovative tool capable of collecting up to 100 kilos of waste. Moreover, Coop Italia invested in the so-called Pixie Drone, a device that is placed on the water surface and can recover up to 60 kg of floating waste for each mission, as well as in a team of experienced divers who manually collect the sedimented waste between sand and rocks. This set of actions led to the collection of almost 42 tons of plastic waste, a quantity equal to the weight of over 2 million and 700 thousand half-liter bottles of water, which in a row would cover the distance between Milan and Rome.
