EU Food Policy Coalition Pushes for Ambitious Sustainable Food Systems Legislation

As an active member of the EU Food Policy Coalition, Euro Coop has joined in a collective effort by signing an open letter addressed to President Ursula von der Leyen. The letter urges the acceleration of efforts towards implementing a comprehensive legislative framework for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS).

The European Union stands at a pivotal moment in its pursuit of sustainable and environmentally responsible food systems. As we approach the State of the Union Speech scheduled for September 13th, the EU Food Policy Coalition sent an open letter, urging the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to prioritize and accelerate the implementation of a comprehensive legislative framework for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS). This framework holds the key to a greener and more sustainable future for food production, distribution, and consumption in the EU. 

In the face of growing environmental challenges and the need for more responsible food practices, the EU has embarked on a journey outlined in the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy. Central to this mission is the creation of a robust legislative framework for Sustainable Food Systems. To ensure that the EU Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy's flagship Sustainable Food Systems Law remain intact, it is imperative to exert pressure on the Commission. The EU Food Policy Coalition, a leading advocate for sustainable food systems, recognizes the significance of a robust and ambitious legislative proposal that aligns with the EU's overarching environmental objectives.

Earlier this year, the EU Food Policy Coalition collaborated on a comprehensive report that presents clear policy recommendations for the Sustainable Food Systems Law. These recommendations are designed to facilitate a meaningful transition towards sustainable food systems throughout the European Union. The coalition's expertise and dedication to the cause have made them a trusted voice in shaping this critical legislation.
