UN Unveils the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives Logo: Celebrating a Global Movement

The United Nations has officially launched the logo for the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025), setting the stage for a worldwide celebration of cooperatives and their contributions to society. This announcement marks a pivotal moment for cooperatives globally, including Euro Coop members, who stand ready to join this movement under the theme "Cooperatives Build a Better World". This theme, which was first introduced by the UN on 19 June 2024, highlights cooperatives as essential players in overcoming global challenges and advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The IYC2025 logo symbolises people around the world joining forces to build a more sustainable and inclusive world. With colors inspired by the SDGs—red for society, blue for the economy, and green for the environment—the logo represents the positive impact cooperatives have on sustainable development. Euro Coop’s members, working across diverse areas from retail to community engagement, embody the principles represented by these colors, bringing impactful, sustainable practices to communities across Europe.

The official launch of the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives will take place during the ICA Global Cooperative Conference and General Assembly, hosted in New Delhi, India, from 25–30 November 2024. 

How to Use the IYC2025 Logo

The IYC2025 logo is available in six languages, including English, French, and Spanish, allowing widespread access for cooperatives around the world. Non-UN entities looking to use the logo for informational or fundraising activities can submit an application and a signed waiver of liability. Once approved, applicants will receive access to the logo files and guidelines to support promotional materials and events celebrating IYC2025. 

A Year of Celebrations Ahead

The International Year of Cooperatives was last celebrated in 2012, when the UN General Assembly recognized the vital contributions of cooperatives to socio-economic development. In 2025, under the renewed theme "Cooperatives Build a Better World", Euro Coop is excited to celebrate the IYC2025 and honor the cooperative movement’s impact on poverty reduction, employment, and social cohesion.
