The transformation of Europe’s food systems is one of the defining policy challenges of this decade. Climate neutrality, food affordability, supply chain fairness, animal welfare and public health are increasingly interconnected.
Euro Coop contributes to this transition by bringing the perspective of consumer co-operatives into European policymaking. We ensure that sustainability objectives are aligned with market realities, consumer interests and the long-term resilience of retail systems.
Euro Coop engages in EU initiatives that influence the direction of food and sustainability policy. Through our participation in the EU Food Policy Coalition, we contribute to discussions on integrated food governance and policy coherence. Within the EU Agri-food Chain Observatory, we support efforts to increase transparency and fairness in value distribution along the supply chain. Our involvement in the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste and in EU-level dialogues on animal welfare ensures that co-operative retail expertise informs regulatory and strategic developments.
Our positions are developed collectively. Through the Euro Coop Public Policy Working Group, members assess legislative proposals, coordinate analysis of major dossiers and agree on joint advocacy actions. This internal governance ensures that our European engagement reflects operational realities across national markets.
Euro Coop operates at the intersection of policy design and market implementation. By connecting EU institutions with consumer co-operatives active across Europe, we contribute to food systems that are more transparent, climate-resilient, economically viable and socially responsible.
Our approach is rooted in a conviction: sustainable food policy requires both coherent European frameworks and accountable market actors. Consumer co-operatives are uniquely positioned to contribute to both.
