Who we are

Euro Coop represents Europe’s consumer co-operatives operating in the food retail sector, uniting them under a democratic, consumer-owned model. Founded in 1957, we were among the first non-governmental organisations to be recognised by the European Commission, and we have been advocating for consumer co-operatives ever since.

We combine market strength with social responsibility, promoting fair, sustainable, and competitive food systems across Europe. Our members share a commitment to democratic governance, co-operative values, and consumer protection, making Euro Coop Europe’s leading co-operative retail force.

Our role

Euro Coop ensures that consumer co-operatives are effectively represented in EU policymaking. Our Secretariat participates in advisory groups, working platforms, and partnerships with EU institutions and international associations, safeguarding co-operative values and consumer interests.

Through our membership in Cooperatives Europe and participation in initiatives organized by the International Cooperative Alliance, we contribute to working groups and international projects that advance co-operative principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
